What kind of university is NMSU?
NMSU is a public, land-grant university, which began in 1888 as an agricultural college and preparatory school. Today it is a major, all-purpose research-intensive public university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in 8 colleges. It is funded by the state of New Mexico, and has students from all over the U.S. and 75 countries around the world. It is dedicated to three areas of emphasis, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels: teaching, research and service. Because of its location and history, a strong part of the university’s mission is service to the borderlands, and to the rural areas of the state (and the state as a whole).
