Although he does not refer to this in most interviews, he attended nearby Teaneck High School for most of his High school years. He graduated under the name of Marc Jacobs, but used the name Marc Silver for most of his years. He changed his last name from Silver as a result of his estrangement from his parents. He lived in Teaneck with his mother, sister and younger brother. From there, Jacobs entered the Parsons School of Design in New York City.
