He is a fashion designer. Marc Jacobs (born April 9, 1963 in New York City) is an American fashion designer. He attended the High School of Art and Design and graduated in 1981. Although he does not refer to this in most interviews, he attended nearby Teaneck High School for most of his High school years. He graduated under the name of Marc Jacobs, but used the name Marc Silver for most of his years. He changed his last name from Silver as a result of his estrangement from his parents. He lived in Teaneck with his mother, sister and younger brother. From there, Jacobs entered the Parsons School of Design in New York City. At Parsons, Jacobs won the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award in 1984, and in the same year was also awarded the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award and the Design Student of the Year Award.
