What languages are spoken in Switzerland?
Switzerland has four national languages, of which three are official. German is spoken by around 64% of the population, French by around 20% and Italian by 6.5%. Romansch is spoken by around 0.5% of the population. German, French and Italian are all national languages. Romansch is a national language but not an official one. Official documents directly affecting the Romansch-speaking community must also be translated into Romansch. Other non-national, non-official languages spoken in Switzerland include Serbo-Croation, Albania, Portugese, Spanish and English.
