What materials are the Fender style bobbins make of?
Fender style bobbins that are fabricated and combined with rod magnets are commonly made from Vulcanized Fibre and later other Fender bobbins are made from a plastic molded bobbin. Vulcanized Fibre is made Spaulding Fibre, NVF and Toyo Fibre. Vulcanized Fibre is great to work with and can be punched out into many shapes. Music Man, G & L, Seymour Duncan all use some form of Vulcanized Fibre for their fabricated bobbins. Fabricated means a combination of flatwork, magnets, spacer etc. to form a working bobbin ready for winding. Nylon bobbins are used on the Fender Humbucker and Bass bobbins and one popular molding plastic is Nylon 6/6.
