What opportunities will Caring for our Country provide, to fund Indigenous communities for on-ground work?
Recognising the important role and knowledge Indigenous people have in the management of the environment, Caring for our Country provides many opportunities for Indigenous communities to access funds. These range from being able to apply for funding of $20 000 to $100 000 to undertake small scale projects contributing directly to achieving Caring for our Country targets through to working in partnership with regional natural resource management organisations and other Indigenous organisations who can apply for funding for larger projects. Proposals for larger projects could include a number of Indigenous communities. Developing such partnerships provides an opportunity for Indigenous groups to access funds for activities on the ground that will achieve long-term environmental, economic and social outcomes results. The partnerships can also identify and help emerging Indigenous groups to prepare land and sea country plans, while contributing to broader benefits for their communities. It
