What percentage of people get hired via some form of “help wanted” advertising, vrs networking?
The anecdotal evidence I have from talking to people recently would tend to support the numbers Warren mentions. I would guess that it would be *slightly* better than 1 interview to 300 applications, but probably no better than 1 interview for 200 applications (this would be just in the niche I work in though). I have also seen some statistics that put the % of jobs filled by networking somewhat higher than what Warren suggests (more towards 70 or even 80%) Some of what I see is also a combination of the two. A position may be advertised, but someone gets an interview because they are networked with the right people (and those people make sure that their resume gets actually looked at rather than lost in the shuffle of several hundred applicants). The people that I see having the most success, especially in this environment, are those people that are networking both persistently and broadly.
