What Phil Will Do Next: Carry Two Drivers at Augusta? Saturday April 1, 2006 Phil Mickelson has an interesting choice of clubs in his bag this week at the PGA BellSouth Classic. He’s carrying two drivers. One driver is 46 inches, the other is 45 inches. With the 46-inch driver, Mickelson told NBC’s Gary Koch, he hits a 305-yard draw; with the 45-incher, he hits a 290-yard cut. To make room for the second driver, Mickelson removed his sand wedge, leaving him with just 52-degree and 60-degree wedges in the bag. Mickelson’s caddie told Koch that Phil was testing the two-driver approach this week because he thought it might be an approach that works well next week at The Masters.
