What phonics software do students use in kindergarten and first grade?
Kindergarten students at Fort Belvoir use the Waterford Beginning Reading Program. There are separate computer stations for this program in every kindergarten classroom. Students work on the computer for fifteen minutes a day to develop phonics and other beginning reading skills in one-to-one interactive sessions. Then they apply the skills they have learned by reading books correlated to the program. Students in grade one use theThe SuccessMaker program, developed by Computer Curriculum Corporation (CCC), a management-based, individualized tutoring program which tracks each child’s progress and adjusts the levels as they go. There are classroom stations in all first grades, and there is a computer lab dedicated to this program. There are also little books to go along with this program.
