The service is implemented using a standard http proxy server, as defined in RFC2616. Unauthenticated users who access a resource requiring authentication receive an HTTP 407 error (see section 10.4.8 of RFC2616). The proxy server accepts “Basic Authentication” as defined in RFC2617.
