What publications are available from the National Cancer Institute?
The National Cancer Institute has produced more than 900 different publications for patients and their families, health care professionals, science writers, educators and the public. Free NCI booklets, brochures, pamphlets, posters, videotapes, bookmarks and slide kits give accurate, up-to-date cancer information. What You Need To Know About Cancer is a series of more than two dozen booklets on different types of cancer. It is written for patients and their families. Each booklet discusses symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, emotional issues, and questions to ask the doctor. Other NCI publications discuss specific treatments, gene testing, pain control, survivor issues, emotional concerns of patients and caregivers, and children with cancer. Many materials are tailored to specific audiences. For example, there are brochures on nutrition for African-Americans, for Hispanics, and for Native Americans.
