What rights does a patentee accrue?
A patent grants to the patentee a monopoly to exploit the invention in the country or countries in which protection has been obtained for a limited period of 20 years subject to the payment of maintenance or renewal fees. The patent is an intellectual property right. It can be assigned or licensed to others in return for a payment or royalty to the patentee. The patentee may also obtain legal relief to stop others using the invention without permission.
