What security risks are associated with using a wireless network?

There is always a security risk using wireless! – Potential risk of using using your own wireless access point: If your wireless access point is not configured to use any one of the current encryption methods, anyone can access your local network. Which means they can potentially have access to files on your computer, along with using your Internet connection. Regardless of which method of encryption you choose there is always a small chance someone can hack your wireless network. – Potential risk of using a “public” wireless access point (WAP) coffee shop, air ports and such… Unless the public WAP uses encryption (most don’t) you run the risk of another user on the same network “sniffing” your packets. That means they potentially would be able to read all the information being sent to and from your computer.
