What skates should I get for off-ice figure skating training?
Well we only have 6 months a year ice around here (although the situation has been improving the last 2 years with the opening of an all-summer-ice rink in the capital) so I’ve been looking for the holy grail of off-ice ice skating training… Haven’t found it, but I can offer some insights. Quad roller skating. I went this way first, actually joined a proper quad roller figure skating club and all that… Turns out, the ease with which one can turn and spin on quad roller skates depends on the frame. To get any sort of proper turning going, you need like 350 euro worth of frame alone (without the boot), ouch. (Although some members there were selling used ones fairly cheap, there were none available in adult sizes, you may have better luck). Not to mention, the instruction at the quad roller skating club was… well, worse than any group ice skating lesson I’d seen.
