The rule of thumb in all cases of purchase should be, caveat emptor or, let the buyer beware. If you are contemplating purchase of a piece of art registered with FAR with a Fine Art Registry tag affixed to the piece, you should always perform your due diligence first by logging on to FAR and by searching the database for the FAR number associated with the purchase you are contemplating. If you are a paid subscriber, all information regarding the piece you are inquiring about will be displayed, including the user name of the registered owner. If you are not a paid subscriber, an image of the piece will be displayed, but no information associated with the piece will be available to you. You would either need to subscribe or purchase a 48-hour pass which will allow you to conduct whatever research is necessary.
