What support is there for living costs and who is eligible?
A Maintenance Grant of up to £2,906 is available to students starting their courses in 2009. It is means-tested against household income so that: • Students with household incomes of £25,000 or less (including single, independent students) will receive the full £2,906 Maintenance Grant. • Students with household incomes above £25,000 will receive a partial grant, with a minimum grant of £50 payable once household income reaches £50,020. No grant will be payable where household income is above £50,020. Partial grant entitlement will be calculated by applying a taper of £1 for every £5.00 of household income earned in excess of £25,000 up to £34,000. A second taper of £1 for every £15.17 of household income will be applied to household income in excess of £34,000. Students, who are in principle entitled to means-tested benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), such as those with qualifying disabilities, lone parents and full-time student couples with children, will be eli
