Sara Gilbert was born Sara Rebecca Abeles in Santa Monica, California. Her parents are Barbara Crane (née Cowan) and Harold Abeles. Her two older adoptive half-siblings, Melissa Gilbert and Jonathan Gilbert, were stars of Little House on the Prairie.
