A CD spawn is simply the installation of a particular game – it isn’t the complete game. You can download the CD spawns for both MW2 and Mercs off of the main page. Yes, this is legal. The programmers intentionally made it possible to join a game using the CD spawn, in order to make it easier on people wishing to play on a LAN together. The CD is still required to play the singleplayer game and host multiplayer games. It should be noted that some of the CDs for the respective games are cross compatible. Check 1.14 for details.
