What type of maintenance does a sand filter need?
A sand filter does need the sand replaced about every 5 years. If you have moved into a new house and don’t know when the sand was changed, you may want us to check it out to see if it does need one. When in doubt just have us replace the sand, this way your pool won’t take a toll on the problems that bad sand can cause. Bad sand in filter can cause many problems like, higher than normal pressure, inadequate filtration, bad filtration, higher energy bill because motor has to work harder, improper backwashing, cloudy water, water not being filtered, hence multitude of problems like algae growth, cloudy water, unclean and unfit for swimming. Lots of times a customer will tell me that the chemicals are perfect and yet the water is green or cloudy. After replacing the sand for the customer, the pool regains its balance and sparkle.
