What type of sand is best?
The best sand is fine and evenly grained – similar to high quality beach sand (without the shells and seaweed). Most building supply centers (such as Home Depot) carry silica sand which is normally used for sand blasting. We have found this sand to work very well. If your local center has different numbers on the bag, try to get between #20 and #30 grade (the higher the number, the finer the grains). You can also use play sand. In most regions this is silica sand which has been sterilized. Make sure the sand is thoroughly dry. Don’t buy industrial sand. This is generally not as high quality.
