What types of lung conditions do patients have who are considered for transplant?
Almost any non-malignant lung condition that results in severe lung failure can be considered for transplant. People with COPD, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, pulmonary hypertension, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and a great variety of rare lung diseases can be considered for lung transplant surgery. The Lung Allocation Score determines which patient receives a transplant offer at any given time.
