What was the daily life like in medieval times?
The Medieval period was a thousand years long and covered countries as diverse as Ireland, Spain, Poland and the Byzantine Empire. Daily life was not the same everywhere during that entire time! That said, there are a few generalization that can be made: First of all, there was no electricity, and other methods of indoor lighting are not a bright. Therefore, medieval people arranged their schedule to make the most use of daylight possible. They usually got up very early in the morning (at dawn or shortly before) and expect for special holidays (like, say Christmas) went to bed earlier in the evening than we do, so as not to waste too much firewood, oil and/or candle wax. It was most common in the middle ages to only eat two meals a day – they didn’t eat breakfast as a general rule.
