Basically they are man and wife. Look up the term ‘folie a deux’ and you have a good idea how the whole murder thing works from the start in my opinion! Both love each enough to make huge sacrifices, it is a strong and passionate relationship. If it wasn’t then Macbeth would have found it easier to disassociate with his wife when she ‘accounted his love,’ and Lady Macbeth would not have included the ‘why do you keep alone…’ speech when her husband begins to marginalise her. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth and his wife consider each other as equal in worth (my dearest partner of greatness- a quote by Macbeth, ‘great Glamis, worthy Cawdor’- a quote by Lady Macbeth.) In Act II, Macbeth marginalises her and keeps her out of his plans to murder Banquo, showing that he either doesn’t want to cause her any more stress/guilt, or he doesn’t trust her enough to include her- you decide.
