“major brand website” can mean a lot of things. If we are talking a website to go along with a campaign (say “shave anywhere” or “will it blend” or something like that) vs. not the actual coke.com or nike.com, then yes, somewhere in the $150-500k range is about right. These answers here are all broadly correct. If you’re talking nike.com or coke.com the answer is millions. Easily $4-5 million a year, often more, and that’s excluding the extensions to coordinate with any individual campaign site, as described elsewhere here. A base team on a large brand presence might include 1-3 client service reps, 1-3 producers, a creative director, 1-2 art directors, 2-3 designers, a copywriter, 4 or more developers, an interaction designer/user experience designer, an information architect, a content strategist, a content editor, 1-3 content creators, and perhaps a social media/community manager and then farmed out help for video production and professional photography.
