WHAT’S A THRIFT STORE?
In case you’ve never, ever ventured into the thrift world, a thrift store is a shop where used clothing or products are resold to benefit a charity organization. (Wow! Buy new $1 Candies 8″ heels AND help those in need! Talk about good karma.) Thrift stores also generally sell a variety of household items like books, dishes, furniture, music, and jewelry. This is slightly different from consignment stores, where the goods sold technically still belong to the owner, who gets a percentage of the cost of what is sold. Thrift stores are also different from vintage stores, which resell used clothing from an earlier period. (Little Thrift Fact: Vintage clothes range in age from 1920’s to 1980’s. Clothing pre-1920’s is considered to be antique.) But beware! Vintage stores usually can get away with charging more moolah since “vintage” is now in-style, thanks to celebrities.
