Whats ataxic cerebral palsy?
Ataxic cerebral palsy occurs in about 10% of children with cerebral palsy. Distinguished by poor coordination and loose muscle tone (low muscle tone), children with this particular form of the condition look very unsteady and shaky. These children also have muscle weakness and trembling. Children with this disorder have difficulty making rapid or fine movements and walk unsteadily, with their legs widely spaced. They experience extreme shakiness the majority of the time but this can become more pronounced when trying to perform fine movements such as turning the page of a book. Poor balance is also a problem for these children and they may be very unsteady when they walk. Because of the shaky movements and problems coordinating their muscles, kids with ataxic CP may take longer to finish writing or art projects.
