WHAT’S THE BEST TREATMENT FOR DIAPER RASH?
First, let’s make sure we know what diaper rash is. It’s an irritation and inflammation of the skin, due to repeated exposure to the moisture of urine and stool. It’s very common, and usually not harmful to your baby, but it is very uncomfortable for them. The best way to treat this is to create a barrier against subsequent attacks of moisture. We can use any cream or ointment to create the barrier, as long as we know the key…and the key is to place it on thick! Coat the area heavily with every diaper change and the skin will heal beneath the barrier, as moisture is kept at bay! If the diaper rash doesn’t resolve within a few days time, or if it worsens, then see your pediatrician, because it may be a yeast infection. But don’t worry, as this is not as common as routine diaper rash. So remember, create a barrier…and the thicker the better!
