The main difference between regular glasses and safety glasses is their resistance to impact, even if the two look very similar. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) sets all standards for safety glasses. They require that these particular safety products are able to withstand the impact of a steel ball traveling 150 feet per second. Glasses that have been tested are stamped with the imprint “Z87” on them. It is important to keep in mind that most safety glasses protect you only from impact from the front.
