What’s VHW’s relationship to Partners in Health?
While studying at the Harvard School of Public Health, Deo, VHW’s founder, met Dr. Paul Farmer, co-founder of Partners In Health (PIH), and became involved in their work. When Deo initiated plans to establish a free medical clinic in his home village of Kigutu, Partners in Health provided invaluable guidance and administrative support. Partners in Health medical director Joia Mukherjee and Paul Farmer have visited the Burundi clinic to see patients, go on home visits, and provide hands-on guidance. VHW has assembled a global team of technical support and training. Partners in Health also serves as our fiscal sponsor, so all donations to VHW are processed through PIH (PIH sends out the tax-deductible receipts), however, all funding for VHW is secured directly by VHW staff from its own donor community.
