Practicals are additional sessions in some courses and you need to sign up for them via ROSI. They are laboratory sections mainly seen in Life Science, Physical Science and Environmental Science courses. Depending on the course, some practicals meet twice a week (ex: BGYB12), once every week (ex: BGYA01), or only once every two weeks (ex: PHYA10). In courses where practicals are held once every two weeks, odd practical sections (ex: PRA0001) usually take place during Week 1 and even practical sections (ex: PRA0002) usually take place during Week 2. They can range anywhere from 1-2 hours to 5-6 hours long depending on the course and the content. In many courses with practicals they are a worth about 15-30% of the whole course. There are other courses, however, (ex: BGYB32) that are called “Lab courses,” where the laboratory content is the focus of the course, and you could be spending 5 hours per week on lab work and only 1 hour in lectures.
