#spacer{clear:left}#abc #sidebar{margin-top:1.5em}zSB(3,3) Ireland is proposing a law that makes blasphemy toward any religion illegal, with blasphemy being defined as “publishing or uttering matter that is grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters held sacred by any religion, thereby intentionally causing outrage among a substantial number of adherents of that religion, with some defenses permitted.” While it’s commendable that the law applies to all religions, not just Catholicism or Christianity, it simply isn’t practical, not to mention offensive to anyone strongly supporting free speech. How does one define “outrage”? At least the law states a blasphemous statement needs to intentionally cause outrage, but how does one prove a person’s ultimate motivation?
