When a teacher marks a student Absent in the Gradebook, is the absence considered excused or unexcused?

Students are marked as Absent/Unexcused by the teacher. If the student is excused from the absence, the data/attendance clerk will make the correction as well as make corrections for students who are absent for other reasons such as extra-curricular activity, school sponsored event, or campus curricular activities.
