When Does the Alimony Stop?
Alimony (spousal support) is different, and in many cases completely separate from, child support. Alimony generally stops if the ex-spouse remarries or it can be proven that his/her financial situation has improved to some point that support is no long required. Child support, on the other hand, generally ceases when the child reaches adulthood, depending on what state you’re in, usually at the age of 18.
