When I use version 8 sendmail on an IBM RS/6000 running AIX, the system resource controller always reports sendmail as “inoperative”, even though its actually running. Whats wrong?

When running as a daemon, sendmail detaches from its parent process, fooling the SRC into thinking that sendmail has exited.
