Students at St. Clair are getting into giving. The Sarnia high school held a random acts of kindness competition for 23 of its homerooms last week, in order to promote altruistic action. “The rationale is, if they do kind behaviour, they’ll see the positiveness that comes out of it,” said Scott Lalonde, a teacher who helped organize the competition. The acts of kindness were judged on creativity, selflessness and impact. The event was organized by the student-run Bully Blasters committee, with the winning homeroom received a pizza party. “We wanted St. Clair to step outside of the classroom and do something in the community,” said Mikayla Hanlon, a Grade 11 student and Bully Blasters member. “When we first heard about it everyone was pretty excited and we were all jumping up with ideas,” said Erin Gabriel, a Grade 9 student in Ann Oreskovich’s geography class.
