When using Parallels or VMware on a Mac, should networking be shared or ridged?

The Network Adapter should be set to Bridged Ethernet. To do this, stop the Virtual Machine (Parallels or VMware) and go to the ‘Virtual Configuration’ or ‘Edit’ screen. Click Bridged Ethernet. Then click ‘OK’ and restart your Virtual Machine. An indirect, but effective way to change to bridged networking in Parallels is as follows: Go to the Configuration screen. On the Menu Bar above, click ‘Actions > Suspend’. Then click ‘Network Adapter’ on the Configuration screen. You will receive a prompt asking if you want to proceed with editing. Answer ‘Yes’. Click ‘Bridged Ethernet’. Then click ‘OK’ and restart your Virtual Machine.
