When was the Eiffel Tower designed by Gustave Eiffel?
The Eiffel Tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel (from a design by Maurice Koechlin) in the middle 1880’s, and was originally planned for the “Universal Exhibition of 1888” (a “World’s Fair”) in Barcelona, Spain. But it was eventually built in Paris for the “Universal Exhibition of 1889”. It was completed and inaugurated March 31, 1889, and opened to visitors on July 2.
