In April 2008 Ofcom announced plans to upgrade digital terrestrial television (Freeview) to allow for up to four new HD channels, including BBC HD. It expects to introduce high definition on Freeview, depending on where you live, from early 2010. For more information visit Freeview. You will need to purchase an ‘HD Ready’ digital box to get high definition channels on Freeview when it becomes available in your region.

HD is becoming available on Freeview as digital switchover takes place. Freeview has a target of 50% coverage for its HD service, which includes BBC HD, by the time of the football World Cup in June 2010 and 60% by the end of 2010.
