When will Liberals give George W. Bush recognition for improving education in America?
I’ll give him credit when he actually improves education. NCLB sounds really good to those who are not in education, but it is a joke! It is not properly funded. More importantly, the “accountability” in the form of a high-stakes test has forced teachers to teach to the test. Creativity is gone. Teachers are reading from a script. All learning that cannot be measured on a paper-and-pencil test is eliminated from the curriculum. Skills that will really help students in the real world are no longer developed. If schools don’t increase scores each year, they lose money. How does that help them improve? Class sizes are growing out of control, and everyone knows that affects achievement. Vouchers take badly-needed resources away from public schools. Look at the evidence: charter school students score lower on achievement tests than public school students. Why are we wasting money on them? Private schools usually turn out above-average achievers, but there’s a good reason. They have parents
