Where are war brides?
The war on terror is probably the first war that we have engaged in where there are not numerous “war brides.” I have not read about any GI’s bringing back Iraqi women after their tour of duty. In previous wars, this issue was big news. Is it that it doesn’t happen now because the cultures are too different, or does it happen and just is not reported? At any rate, it seems it would be an interesting sociological story for some inquiring reporter. —Dick Weber Drop plan like a bad show The Bush-Cheney spin machine claims that if you criticize the so-called “new way forward” in Iraq, you are somehow undermining or not supporting our troops. Meanwhile, the administration claims a new strategy, but also says there is no “surge” and the additional troops are merely “reinforcements.” This “new strategy” appears to include accelerated training for the Iraqi army, so they can “stand up” — as we “stand down.” Excuse me, but this sounds like the “old way forward” — just with more troops.
