First of all to answer your question, if you make more than $35000 you can possibly get an american express card. These usually have fairly high limits. You can also apply for just a regular visa or mastercard. Any credit card will help to establish your credit fairly quickly. You don’t need a high limit, you just have to pay it off each time you use it. You also have to use it on a regular basis (i.e. at least once a month) in order for it to have any affect on your credit. The way I did this to establish credit was that I got a credit card with a low limit $1500. I then used it for most of my purchases. When I got home from making those purchases I used telephone or internet banking to make a payment from my chequing account equal to my purchases. I never bought anything I didn’t already have the money for.
