Where does India stand in the comity of nations on media law?
All international societies are trying to come to grips with media technologies; India is not alone in this. It goes together with theprocess of nation-building itself. So there are issues of language, diversity, fears of internal security, international image and so on. India faces these problems all together, which makes it more complex. It makes for an extraordinary case-study. Is Indian media law badly behind the times? All over the world, media law lags dramatically behind media developments. India is no different. There’s really no law that doesn’t become outdated ten minutes after it’s introduced. Media develops without the blessings of law, and that’s how it should be.
