5. A: Ideally, the pantry should always be located close to the kitchen to save steps. You are walking to the pantry to retrieve food items for food preparation and perhaps small appliances. That said, a remodel is about compromise. Small homeowners are creative about pantry placement. It may be storage shelves in a garage, basement or canned goods under the sofa in the living room.
