Where is the Best Bookstore in Seattle, Washington?
Santoro’s is definitely a specialty bookstore. This is a five-star if you are looking for a hard-to-find, intellectually challenging book. If you are looking for a bookstore with a wide, general range of titles, look elsewhere. The store has a great section for kids, a great section for historically important or artistically written fiction, and a diverse poetry section. However, if you are not buying a book for a literature, philosophy, or writing professor or student, you may not find anything to suit you. I will shop there again, when searching for a particular classical work, but I did not find a single book to purchase as a gift for my stepbrother, whose tastes range in the horror, fantasy, and science fiction realms. No coffee table books with impressionist works in them for my father were available. A few graphic novels and travel books that were passable for my little brother caught my eye. While the Elliott Bay Book Company has decamped for Capitol Hill, the cafe is still going strong, and if you haven’t revisited the EBC since their dramatic renovation and re-opening in late 2008, you’re missing out on a downtown gem. Light-colored walls have replaced the old gloomy scene, while an ample mix of booths and communal tables offer seating for everyone from the solo diner to the book club. Their standard menu of sandwiches, salads and breakfast items is always a good bet – especially the flavor-packed Argentinian steak salad – but you can’t go wrong ordering off the blackboard of half a dozen daily specials. EBC walks the local and organic talk – they’re a pickup point for CSA baskets and their specials always showcase what’s in season. The university book store is one of my favorite seattle books stores. Not only do they have good prices and wide selection of textbooks, their selection of other books is hugely extensive. It’s a really nice, relaxing atmosphere (except during the beginning and end of UW quarters). The staff is very friendly and helpful. Also, they have really good special events. The husky shop is pretty cool and the people in the media center are helpful. Overall, it’s a really great bookstore.Pros + Great selection, great staffCons – parking is a little annoying
As consumers, we have got to unite to keep our local bookstores in business; especially when the bookstore provides the best customer service in town. They will mail books to you for FREE. Amazon can’t touch that! If they don’t have it, they will get it – even if that means searching the ends of the book world for it.
