Sidney’s Grille is an oasis of affordable elegance in the midst of Central Square. Located at MIT?s University Park in the upscale Le Meridien hotel, the restaurant features innovative new American cuisine. With its ultra-modern decor, high ceilings and beautiful bar with marble counter tops, Sidney’s immediately makes diners feel pampered. And then there?s the delightful and well-presented dishes. Appetizers like the three-cod New England clam chowder and the seared sea scallops with lemon thyme sparkle. Favorite main courses include the mouth watering striped sea bass with sweet corn and leek ragout; the sesame crusted ahi tuna with gingered sweet potato; and Sidney?s strip steak with roasted garlic. A little off the beaten path, Sidney’s Grille is truly a hidden gem that is one of the best kept secrets in Cambridge.
The SceneUnlike most hotel bars, Bar 10 attracts an after-work crowd of professionals more likely to hail from offices next door than from out of town. The decor is understated, with furniture of sleek black wood and beige and tangerine velvet. Slatted window shades and heavy curtains block the light from outside; soft linen lampshades keep it perennially cocktail hour.The DrawBar 10 is the quickest way to feel like a visitor in your own city, with all of the intrigue that implies. If the ambience doesn’t do it, potent cocktails will have you chatting up your fellow wayfarer in no time. Must-try concoctions include the creme brulee martini (Stoli Vanil, Cointreau, Frangelico, creme anglaise) and the cheekily named flirtini (Chambourd and lime juice with a raspberry sugar rim).
Monday through Thursday from 5-7pm, Noir offers their food menu at prices ranging from $0-5. It’s amazingly easy to cobble together a meal from all the offerings. Drinks are pricier, mostly running over $10, but are well worth it for the combination of classics and unique seasonal libations. If you price it right, you can get out of Noir with dinner for under $20.The room itself is not particularly comfortable, but if you’re looking for a dark corner to enjoy your drinks in, you’ve found your place. I must admit, Whiskey Park is a really nice spot, and pulls a nice crowd. Its best to go on a weekday or really early on weekends. But be warned, after queuing for an hour, or so, you may still not get in on a Friday/Saturday night…unless you’re VIP. I’d recommend Foundation Lounge on Comm Ave…at least their bouncers are cool, and it pulls a crowd somewhat comparable to Whiskey.
