Where would the wells be located?
As part of the proposed San Francisco Groundwater Supply Project, up to six wells and associated facilities would be constructed in the western part of San Francisco, extending northward from the Lake Merced area to Golden Gate Park. Test wells to verify groundwater quality and quantity have been installed on the southeastern side of Lake Merced, at a South Sunset site near Wawona Street and 40th Avenue, and on the edge of the West Sunset parking lot near Quintara Street and 40th Avenue. One or more locations for a new test well in Golden Gate Park are being considered. In addition, two wells presently used for irrigation in Golden Gate Park would be permitted for municipal water supply and become part of the San Francisco Groundwater Supply Project once recycled water replaces groundwater for park irrigation.
