Which country is the leading country in reducing their emissions according to the Kyoto treaty?
Kyoto is a marathon, not a sprint, and regardless, the important countries aren’t even playing: China, India, US. Heck, since it’s banned the sale of incandescent light bulbs, you could say Australia’s the front runner, and they didn’t even ratify Kyoto! If all the countries participating meet the goal in 2012 of reducing their emissions to 1990 levels, then everybody wins. I’m going to suggest that we’re going to see a lot more carbon credit trading than technological aides when it comes to meeting Kyoto’s demands. This of course demands that some countries come “under quota” so that they have carbon credits to trade to the countries that are “over quota.” One likely source for these credits is also the development of sustainable energy, like wind power and methane capture, the building of which usually results in the creation of carbon credits for exchange on cap-and-trade markets.
