Which is a common type of skiing (downhill or cross country)?

Both are popular. XC skiers are in the minority, but are usually more dedicated to their sport. More people go downhill skiing, but the vast majority of downhill skiers do not ski as much as the typical XC skier. The average downhill skier skis less than 10 days a year. The average XC skier skis 20+ days a year. Downhill skiers live everywhere on the planet and almost always have to travel to ski. XC skiers typically live in areas where weather and terrain support the activity. These areas typically do not support large populations to begin with. You can probably find as many downhill skiers in the DFW Metroplex as you will find XC skiers in all of Vermont. (But that still doesn’t mean Texans are good skiers.) 😉 Then there are people like me who do both.
