Which sectors or populations does Grassroots Business Fund prioritize for support, and why?
Grassroots Business Fund serves hard-to-reach, low-income, and disadvantaged populations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America—people who lack access to existing economic opportunities and who are not reached by other development models. It focuses on specific economic sectors on which these people depend, but which remain commercially undeveloped. GBF works with: Farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs—agriculture, though the predominant livelihood in low-income countries and rural areas, often offers only a subsistence living to farmers without modern technology and market access. Handicraft producers—artisans who employ traditional skills to increase their income generally lack the connections and opportunities to see potential profits. Youth and informal entrepreneurs—these groups’ activities often make up a significant portion of developing countries’ economies, but they need mentoring and connections to improve their business capacity, as well as start-up capital to develop and grow
