Are they, as Muse might have you believe, some kind of space opera types who come from Mars? Or are they the sinister group of men who meet in Neasden once every six months and plot the future of Britain’s largest music venue? Today it would be wise to plump for the latter after it was announced that Muse, yes Muse, are to the first band confirmed to play at the new Wembley stadium when it opens next summer. “It feels right for us to play this venue”, Matt Bellamy told NME.com in slightly spooky tones which may have been the result of drinking unicorn milk with the knights a short while beforehand. “We’re ready for this kind of thing.” That kind of thing would seem to be a 75,000 crowd and easy access to inflatable spaceships. But while all resident Martians will be slavering in anticipation of the concert, promoters have already hinted that another band – probably American – are set to play Wembley first.
