Who can I call for answers to questions about Elkhart and Indiana Building Codes?
A.The Building Department suggests that if you need help understanding building codes, you should consult with an architect, an engineer, a building designer, or a building contractor. The Building Department is in the business of inspecting buildings to see if they meet code standards. It is not our role to assist you in doing design work. Your architect, engineer and building contractor are the persons to consult. Persons who wish to do their own construction may borrow copies of the Building Codes from the Public Library. Copies of the various Building, Electrical, Mechanical (HVACR) and Plumbing Codes are also available from the Model Code organizations. Q.
